PUBLICITY OFFICER
The Publicity Officer is responsible for promoting our society! This means managing our social media (Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, alongside Spotify, TikTok and our website), and keeping members up-to-date with the latest DanceSoc news, events, auditions, and more. Excellent communication skills are absolutely essential.
Being prepared for Freshers’ Week is incredibly important for the Publicity Officer. It’s their responsibility to design, print, and organise promotional materials such as: flyers, timetables, brochures, and Freshers’ Packs. Great teamwork skills are necessary, as they’ll need to liaise with the Treasurer on the budget, and the President on managing the committee for the week. But Freshers’ Week is just the beginning! The Publicity Officer plays an important and constant role, so organisation and time management skills are key. They’re responsible for making cover photos, posts, and Instagram stories for socials, auditions, showcases, and any Dance Society event - even posting photos of competitions, stories while at classes and socials, you name it. The Publicity Officer also makes the weekly timetable look attractive, works with the VP on publicity materials for stash advertisements and showcases, creates and posts highlight videos, performances from competitions, Performance Team’s dances at events, and dances from the spring showcase on YouTube. Problem solving, eye (and skill) for design, confidence with written English, and initiative are therefore qualities central to the role. Alongside the President and VP, they manage the society’s messaging inbox, so efficiency and communication is hugely important to ensure our members are well informed. They are also expected to attend socials, support other committee members, and help out with society events.
While this role involves a lot and requires dedication, it is a hugely rewarding and enjoyable job. If you’re creative and super enthusiastic about Dance Society, then this is perfect for you!
Those running for Publicity Officer must design a draft poster promoting the Freshers’ Week Meet and Greet, and a cover photo for its Facebook event. This is an important event during Freshers’ Week and a great way to meet new potential members, so your designs should be eye-catching and encourage engagement. Make sure your designs are cohesive with the current society branding, and feel free to use any ideas and graphics from this year, but please try to be original and creative!
If you have any questions, feel free to message or email the current Publicity Officer Isobella Chick.
