The President is responsible for overseeing operations of the society for the coming year. They will be required to lead and manage your Committee and provide support for everyone involved in Shotgun. You are facilitating the creation of student theatre, which should always be a fun experience, with the opportunity to progress and excel in theatrical pursuits.
This role requires you to be self-motivated, approachable, balanced, communicative, organised, resourceful and hard-working. Above all else, however, it requires passion. Passion for musical theatre, the society, and the work you do within it. Whilst there are many things you can and will learn on this job, passion is innate – if you have it, you’re more than halfway there.
The President’s responsibilities are never predictable, meaning being flexible and adaptable is essential. Some of the responsibilities you can bank on, however, are as follows:
COMMITTEE
- Establishing and maintaining a collaborative, cohesive environment within your committee, with you at the helm
- Organising & chairing committee meetings
- Working together to project a positive atmosphere and face for the society
- Supporting committee members with their tasks where necessary
- Having an intimate understanding of the society’s activities in order to act when needed
- Overseeing and supervising all society ventures, ensuring we are providing the best experience for members and maintaining standards set by the hard work we all do
- Being the main point of contact with the Students’ Guild, and with any external interest in the Society
PRODUCTIONS
- Interviewing and appointing enthusiastic, competent Creative Team members alongside your committee
- Being in close contact with your Production Supervisors to keep informed on any issues which may arise
- Ensure people’s voices are being heard and a productive, fun working environment is sustained
