Position Information

Being a Production Supervisor allows you to be directly involved in all aspects of a Shotgun show. This includes going into rehearsals with the cast, helping the stage team build a set or organising a fundraiser alongside the publicity team; you have an overarching involvement with every aspect of a show. You will also be responsible for communicating everything back to the committee and ensuring the show runs smoothly. The role is extremely rewarding as you watch the show come together whilst performing a multitude of roles.

The key qualities needed to be a good Production Supervisor are organisational skills, personability and diligence. There are so many elements within a show that require supervision and so it is very important for you to organise your time inorder to ensure that you can sufficiently oversee all parts of the production. Being personable is also important to the role as you will be working with a variety of people in different roles; not only in the production itself but potentially also with external venues and companies. This means being approachable and able to communicate with others is a very important aspect of the job. Finally, being diligent is crucial to this role as members of the various teams will look to the Production Supervisor as an example and for guidance. Being diligent will help set a positive example to the other company members, and ensure a constructive and healthy environment for everyone involved.

This role on the committee is incredibly rewarding and comes with its own sense of pride and responsibility. It also allows you to develop your production skills further and gain experience working as a leader as well as part of a team. I would recommend being a Production Supervisor to anyone who has a passion for drawing all aspects of theatre together and bringing them to life.
