Put yourself forward.
The charity and welfare secretaries help ease the transition from sixth form to university life, being a constant friendly and approachable face both around campus and at socials. They need to be a sociable, present member of committee, especially during freshers weeks: they’re going to be the first port of call for if anything goes wrong and freshers are in need of help. The role of charity and welfare secretary also requires organised and creative individuals to organise and run charity fundraisers, for example at the Winter Ball and during Movember. Weekly drop-ins are extremely important, as well as the occasional sober social, so be prepared to meet and signpost MedSoc members to the right welfare support services. Finally, know your strengths and weaknesses! You need to work well alongside your other charity and welfare secretary to provide a safe and confidential environment for MedSoc members, and you must be able to thrive in planning and delivering successful charity events.
