The Musical Director (MD) is the creative heart of the society, shaping its sound, direction, and musical identity. The MD leads rehearsals and keeps them productive, enjoyable, and welcoming, working closely with the President to ensure sessions run smoothly and that members feel supported.

With overall responsibility for arranging pieces, the MD brings music to life in a way that suits the ensemble and highlights its strengths. The role also plays a key part in helping the society grow and stay visible — collaborating with other societies, building relationships with venues, and securing performance opportunities.

Where appropriate, the MD may organise and run auditions to maintain a strong and balanced playing standard within the orchestra.
