The Medical Sciences Society is seeking an organised and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of academic secretary. This position is crucial for enhancing the academic experience our members through the planning and delivery of engaging and supportive academic events.

Constitutional responsibilities:

1. Responsible for planning academic related events – this includes but it’s not limited to alumni talks, support sessions and family events.
2. Plays an active role in finding ideas for engaging events that will support members.
3. Oversees, the organisation and logistics of these academic related activities

Specific role expectations:

• Plan and deliver a variety of academic related events that meet the needs and interests of our society members, including:
  • Family events - activities aimed supporting academic collaboration within family group structures.
  • Alumni talks - inviting alumni to share experiences and insights on academic and career developments.
  • Support sessions - organising tutorials, workshops and revision sessions to aid members in their studies.
• Collaborate with other committee members to align academic activities with the societies overall goals.
• Act as the primary point of contact for guest speakers and participants involved academic activities.
• Ensure events are inclusive and accessible to all members.

• An individual with a strong interest in creating and delivering academic opportunities.
• Reliable, organised and proactive, with excellent time management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with speakers, members and other committee members.
• Creativity and generating ideas for new and engaging academic events.

This role requires strong organisational skills and enthusiasm to support the academic growth society members. The academic secretary must balance event planning with their own academic workload.
