The Welfare secretary is responsible for supporting members with welfare concerns. They are there to be a friendly, approachable face that people can raise concerns or issues with. They can try and help mainly by listening and being empathetic and signposting members towards relevant support or professional guidance. They should also be aware and observant during socials, particularly those involving alcohol, to ensure all attendees are feeling safe and happy.

They do not necessarily have to be sober at Stammtisch socials, but are more there to act as a specific person on committee who people know they can go to to raise concerns or welfare issues. These issues are by no means required to be raised further to the committee unless there are more serious implications or unless the person/people involved would like them to be. This is obviously an important role and candidates should be respectful and mature.
