Position Information

The Cultural Officer will play a key role in ensuring that South Asian culture remains at the heart of SASOC by helping to create events, initiatives and experiences that celebrate the diversity of South Asian traditions, identities and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Help plan and organise cultural celebrations, festivals and events throughout the academic year.

Develop creative ways to showcase South Asian culture through food, music, dance, traditions, history, art and other experiences.

Help ensure SASOC represents the breadth and diversity of South Asian cultures and communities in an inclusive and respectful way.

Work closely with the Social, Events and Marketing teams to develop and promote cultural programming.

Bring forward new ideas for cultural events and initiatives based on member interests and feedback.

Encourage members to share their own cultures, traditions and experiences with the wider SASOC community.

Identify opportunities to collaborate with other cultural societies, student groups and external organisations.

Help make SASOC’s cultural events accessible and welcoming to both South Asian students and the wider University community.

Support major SASOC events, collaborations and celebrations throughout the year.

Contribute actively to the wider running and development of SASOC as a committee member.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about South Asian culture, creative, inclusive, approachable and organised, with strong communication and teamwork skills and a genuine interest in celebrating the diversity of the South Asian community.
