Official remit: 

“Shall be responsible for supporting the Intervarsity Captains with the running of the society’s intervarsity programme, such as by providing secretarial support for workshops and competitions.” 

What this job really looks like: 

The IV secretary’s job is to support the society’s Intervarsity Program comprising workshops, external competitions and competitions organised here in Exeter. Some of the common responsibilities of this role include organising rooms on Mondays, helping with competition convening and organising logistics when we go to other universities. You may also organise workshops of your own, write risk assessments and work with other debating societies while organising competitions. You will often be on call to fill in as a judge or speaker during workshops. Desirable traits for this role include: knowledge about and passion for competitive debating, strong administrative skills and an ability to adapt to a range of different responsibilities.
