Join the heart of our vibrant Salsa Society by stepping into one of the pivotal roles in our annual committee elections. Each position not only offers the chance to shape the future of our community but also a unique opportunity for personal growth, leadership development, and lots of dancing! Here's what each role entails:

President

As a president, you will be main decision-maker of the committee. Management is a very important word for you, as time, resources and other committee members will be the key to a successful society. You will have to work internally with all teams and externally with all teachers and possible sponsors, so negotiation skills and communication are also important. Do not be too scared of this though, as it is an excellent chance to get all of these skills polished and practised for any bigger roles you might take in the future!

Vice President

Your role as vice president is an important one. Your role will mainly consist of helping the president make important decisions and picking up the slack in other roles that are not filled i.e., stash and welfare.  You will be a sounding board for other team members to bounce ideas off and it is part of your role to help other committee make their ideas a reality. This is a great opportunity to practice people skills, communication and improve your dance ability. I can’t wait to see who runs!!

Social Secretary

The role of the social secretary is to open up the society to fun new ways of making friends and enjoying events. Planning socials is important to bringing the society together as a unit and bringing individuals together. It's about curating events so that people are forced to make those connections and can't be left out. That includes being the person who will talk to anyone to make them feel included and can make them smile and laugh. You also have to plan those major events, our society balls. It takes lot of emailing, notes, budgeting and chasing after people but seeing your event come together and everybody enjoy it makes the whole thing worth it. Being a social secretary means providing an environment to make friends for life and live your uni experience to the fullest.

Treasurer 

As the treasurer, you can be as involved as you want. In previous years, the bare minimum has been to email the teachers weekly invoices to the guild and accept/reject any expenses other committees incurred for other events. However, I would strongly recommend being more involved in the decision-making processes of both socials and lessons (via fixr) to ensure that the society continues to break even across the year. I have found being more involved to be so much more rewarding and worth every second.

Salsa captain

As Team Captain your main role is to be friendly and chatty with members and make sure every class is enjoyable and fun. Be a welcoming and smiley face that is inviting for new and loyal members. You will also have the role of organising the Salsa Competition, one of the most fun and anticipated Salsa events of the year!

Bachata captain

The bachata team captain is responsible for making sure that the bachata lessons run smoothly. This includes setting up before lessons, taking tickets, helping and encouraging members during lessons and supporting our bachata teacher, Mariana. In this role, it is important to be able to build a rapport with both members who regularly come to lessons and those who are new, and to act as a point of contact for them.

Publicity secretary

The publicity secretary role gives you a chance  noto exercise those creative muscles. There is so much still to improve on how we do social media and share recordings of classes, and you can be the one to make it better, clearer, more fun! *Influencer glow* There is also a responsible side to the job, you need to make sure posts about classes, socials go out in time and promotion materials (for freshers) are ready with time to spare. But once you are set up, most of the materials can be reused and you get to play once in a while when preparing the new posts! You will need some skills in Canva or any other image editing platform, but nothing that one cannot learn on the job!

Welfare secretary - new role!

As Welfare Sec your main role is to make sure everyone is happy and safe. You will be the main and first member that issues will be reported to. You will be on the look out for any issues within Salsa and help to make sure everyone feels happy and safe to express themselves. You can set up small gatherings and invite people to come and speak to you about issues and make sure if anything concerning happens you take the proper action. As well as this, on socials and events you will be there to ensure everyone is safe (but make sure you have fun too)
