  • Prepare and deliver a plan for educating the Members about Islam over the course of the year, along with the President.
  • Play a major role in the overall development of the members with regular Islamic classes, retreats, etc.
  • To oversee the planning and delivering of lectures, lecture series, classes, halaqahs or other similar events pertaining to the cultivation of the Islamic education of members of the ISOC.
  • Arrange for speaker talks to increase engagement with the Society and address larger issues.
  • To ensure all guests such as external speakers are provided with professional itineraries, are met on arrival, briefed prior to an event, made comfortable during their stay and are assisted in any other ways possible.
  • Be responsible for all the Dawah resources and materials that the Society owns, ensuring that they are proof-read and updated regularly.
  • Be responsible for facilitating Dawah training for Society members.
  • Manage Discover Islam Week and other Dawah projects throughout the year, inviting non-Muslims to the Deen.
  • Search for new Dawah opportunities where possible.
  • Update posters/notices when needed and execute activities to share Islam with non-members.
  • To facilitate members of the society gaining maximum access to Guild academic and support services by advertising relevant workshops, drop-in sessions or other similar events via all Isoc platforms.
  • Ensure that the prayer facilities are always well maintained and in good condition.
  • Ensure that there are enough relevant books present in the prayer room.
  • Work alongside university staff to carry out any improvements to the prayer room.
  • Liaise with the interfaith representatives from other faith societies.
  • Ensure interfaith dialogue happens on campus, through organising regular Dawah stalls, manned by a sufficient amount of trained volunteers.

Requirements:

  • To be passionate about teaching, education and mentoring.
  • To have a general awareness regarding all academic services the University has on offer.
  • To have satisfactory Islamic knowledge.
  • To be wise regarding which speakers to invite and which topics to cover. This means two things: Firstly, understanding that the level of knowledge one should aim to cover in events should be very basic. Secondly, understanding that it is imperative one avoids deliberately sectarian speakers or topics regardless of one’s personal convictions, as there is very little benefit in creating fitnah and controversy.
  • To have good organisational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills.
