It’s been a privilege to be president this year and the role has taught me so much about working with others, managing a theatre company and developing hands-on leadership and communication skills that I can take into the workplace. It’s by far been the most challenging yet rewarding thing I’ve done during my time at uni and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Your key responsibilities in the role are managing and running a theatre company! This includes running committee meetings, delegating responsibilities and communicating with the Students’ Guild and other T@E presidents. There's also the opportunity to have creative input as an Artistic Director; choosing the programme of shows throughout the year, interviewing creative candidates and supporting the production processes. I would recommend this role to someone who has a good understanding of the ins and outs of staging T@E productions with an appreciation for both the creative and production sides of the process, has a good sense of time management and is able to keep organised and manage a heavy workload. The best part of the role is getting to know the rest of the committee, personally and professionally and being part of such a great team. As well as this, my highlights this year have been getting to know the wider ShakeCo community at socials and fundraisers and seeing everyone’s hard work come together on show nights!
