About Us

Welcome to the Howard League Society Page!

The Howard League for Penal Reform is the oldest penal reform charity in the UK. It was established in 1866 and is named after John Howard, one of the first prison reformers. The aim of this charity is to ensure less crime, safer communities, and fewer people in prison.

We hope to raise awareness for the Howard League, as well as holding fundraisers in order to support thier cause. Furthermore, we plan to hold regular socials in order to get to know every member of the society and relax away from studies; as a smaller society, we can all become great friends! Of course there is an academic side to the society too, where we will explore penal reform through debates, speaker events and, hopefully, group trips.

We hope you join the Howard League Society and can't wait to meet you soon!

Katie Allen, 2021-22 President
