About Us

WHY POLSOC, WE HEAR YOU ASK?

MESSAGE US WITH ANY QUESTIONS, WE'LL BE DELIGHTED TO ANSWER

Proud to be one of campus' largest and most distinguished academic societies, the University's Politics Society is the perfect addition to any Politics or International Relations degree. We also welcome students from any discipline to our community, with our Committee consisting of Economics and Business as well as Politics.

MEMBERSHIP AT A GLANCE

Not only do we boast regular socials - from Revolution and DirtyBeat Thursdays, to the occasional society dinner and pub quizzes, we also throw a notorious Winter Ball and Spring Formal, are home to both intramural football and netball teams, and even host an MP or two from time to time. If you are studying Politics, International Relations, or just fancy good vibes, join our society for an unmissable opportunity to make some new pals inside and outside of your 8:30 lectures and library all-nighters. We hope you will join us!

REGULAR SOCIALS

Socials will be all play and no work allowed. Why will socials be even better than before you ask? Well we have a new venue, Vodka Revolution, with 40% off food and impeccable drinks deals using our unique code which you can find on our instagram! Fever will be the final destination, so get your groove ready. We will also be hosting society favourites, such as family socials and speed dating, along with some surprise collabs. Our family socials have always been the perfect way for new members to make close friendships within the society, with the added bonus of being able to get smashed at the same time.

We want all of our members to enjoy the social aspect of PolSoc, so for those who aren't big drinkers we have a range of non-alcoholic socials. From cinema trips and brunch, to hot chocolate chats, there is something for everyone!

ACADEMIC EVENTS

We have been luckily enough to host one or two MPs including James Brokenshire MP, the former Minister of State for Security in 2020 and the occasional journalist such as Laura Kuenssberg, the Political Editor of BBC News as part of our "PolSoc in conversation with..." event series. We also host networking events in collaboration with the Career Zone and the Politics Department as well as our very own "Question Time" series with Exeter University Conservative Association, Exeter Labour Students, Exeter University Lib Dems and Exeter University Freedom Society.

WINTER BALL AND SPRING FORMAL

Our December Winter Ball is not one to miss. Having hosted over 200 students in years past, it’s the only way to close the calendar year in style. Following our traditional black tie dress code, you will be greeted with a glass of bubbly on arrival, with a chance to pose for the photographer before dinner is called. On entry to the dining room, plenty of wine, atmospheric entertainment and delightful food awaits. Prepare your vote for the PolSoc awards, before we head to Fever to finish the night. This year we're delighted to welcome you to Exeter Castle!

CAREERS AND ALUMNI EVENTS

A new addition this year, feast your eyes on top-notch alumni events with classy reception drinks and nibbles to follow! We know not everyone interested in Politics wants to become an MP or Civil Servant, in fact you might be interested in a law conversion, consultancy, finance or something completely different. Join PolSoc for the opportunity to discover the paths others have taken and how you could find your own!

STASH, STASH, STASH

As students who are extremely committed to our degrees, it can be hard for us to find the time to dress stylishly. Luckily, that is where PolSoc can help. Our members will have access to a range of personalised stash, from puffer jackets and quarter zips to bucket hats and shorts. You can rest assured that PolSoc has something to make you look good throughout the entire year.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS TEAMS

PolSoc is proud to be home to both an intramural football and netball team. The Bandicoots and First Past the Post have been a steady fixture in our society’s history, having increased both their membership and wins last year. The university’s league runs every Sunday evening, giving you a great opportunity to kick back with your pals and play a bit of sport. Our teams are home to a super-relaxed and inclusive environment; so whether you’re a keen sports player, or you’ve never played before – we welcome everyone!

We look forward to welcoming you soon to the best PolSoc year yet.

Go on…add it to your basket.
