About Us

Aims and Objectives:

  • Be an instrument and community in which any and every individual can learn, develop, form friendships, thrive and flourish through the art form of Breakdancing.
  • Be a friendly and welcoming gateway into the local, national and even international Breakdance scenes.
  • Grow the art-form of Breakdance within the University but also the wider community in Exeter but working with other Hip Hop artists.

If you’d like to learn breakdancing for the first time, or are a seasoned b-boy/b-girl looking to meet others with the same passion, we’re the society for you! The Breakdancing Society was founded by Dan Thomas, Robert Evans and Kris Zeigler in 2002, and has come a long way since, making appearances across Exeter, such as at the RAG Fashion Show, Dancing Devon, Strictly Come Dancing and other events in the South West of England. We welcome all abilities, from total beginners to experienced breakers, so don’t be shy if you’ve never tried breaking before; now’s your chance! Lessons are taught at both a total-beginner and intermediate level in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere by Arnaud Montagne, a first year rookie who is now in his fourth, alongside Jim Lee! Lessons run weekly and we have spaces booked out for training and jamming sessions weekly. As well as running lessons and taking part in performances, we have a range of socials throughout the year. We may meet for drinks or go to Exeter’s Firehouse for pizza, or hit up the clubs in town to liven up the dancefloor.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM/message us on our Instagram @exeunibreakers or email us at breakdancing@groups.exeterguild.com
