About Us

Aims and Objectives:

  •  To continue the great work done by our society in previous years.
  • To expand and grow as a society; exploring alternative socials, events and activities. To also look to attract members from outside the subject.
  • To create a safe social space open to all, remaining diverse and inclusive.
  • To remain a varied and supportive society, encouraging all elements of the society from sports to drama.

Salvete!

Welcome one and all to the University of Exeter's Classics Society!

We are a society dedicated to providing a means through which Classics students and anyone interested in Classics can meet up, socialise and participate in events both closely or loosely related to Classics.

The last few years have been particularly successful - and we hope to continue this streak in 2023/24! Highlights to look forward to this year will include a wide range of social events such as the Centurion challenge, the Greeks vs Trojans social, movie nights, quizzes, and of course our bi-annual balls.

Aside from socials, the Society has an active sports department, fielding very successful netball and football teams.

Every year, we also run two trips: last year we visited the Roman Baths Museum in Bath (with a quick stop-off at the Christmas Market, of course) and then in the summer we went to Barcelona.

And if that wasn't enough, we work with the University Classics Department to provide academic support to our members: this has manifested itself in our Student Tutor Scheme, where Level III + language students offer to tutor other students in either Latin or Greek. Our successful Parent Scheme is also operating again this year, which welcomes incoming Freshers into families of current Classics Society members - be sure to join the scheme to get to know your course mates and current members better!
