The elected Station Manager will be responsible for the overall direction and experience for members of the station. In practice, this means taking responsibility for Xpression offering a consistent service to its members, on everything from content teams to presenter training. Above all, the Station Manager should spend time to ensure members, and members of committee, are enjoying their time in the station, and any wellbeing concerns (including that of workload) are handled sensitively.
The role involves ultimate diary management the station, as well as running committee meetings and ensuring we hold current and appropriate music and broadcasting licences. Whilst the compliance with Guild safety requirements are the responsibility of all committee members, the elected Station Manager will work to ensure all aspects of our operations are legal and safe.
The Station Manager will also be responsible for representing and advocating the station and its interests to, as well as maintaining relationships with, X-Media (Exeter’s group of student media societies), the Students’ Guild, wider university, alumni and the SRA. This includes supporting station members with entries to the annual SRA awards. They will also act as the station’s spokesperson where needed and represent the society during events such as Freshers’ Week. Above all, they will work to make sure the station is a welcoming environment.
It is not expected candidates for this position understand everything about the station or know how to carry out each committee role – any Exec candidate will bring their unique experiences (and ideas) from both inside and outside of the station to the position. Candidates should however be willing to provide guidance to a committee member with any aspect of their role if required.
