Position Information

The Programmes Controller oversees the station’s show schedule, taking the lead in ensuring that any content broadcast on-air meets the required compliance standards. They work with the Head of Training and Head of Technical Operations to ensure the technical competency of presenters, ensuring anyone who wishes to use the station’s equipment is able to do so, and does not take us off-air. They also work with the Head of Events to operate Outside Broadcasts during Freshers’ Week, open days and other events throughout the year.

Different members will be feeling different levels of confidence once they have completed their training in the station and the majority of new members have never presented on-air before. The successful candidate will need to spend time answering any questions new members may have about presenting or the society more generally, and arranging support if a presenter wishes to have a committee member present for their first show. As well as individual shows, the Programmes Controller works to promote content team shows to presenters and encourage them to get involved with other areas of the station.

The Programmes Controller will work closely with the other members of Exec to monitor the station’s adherence to the Presenter Code of Conduct and technical expectations of presenters. Where this is not met they will need to feed this back to presenters, ensuring this done sensitively. Where listener complaints are received or there is a serious or repeated breaches of the Code of Conduct, this will need to be taken to the Students’ Guild. Annually this Code of Conduct is reviewed, and the Programmes Controller will play an active part in negotiating this agreement.
