The elected Deputy Station Manager will primarily work to support the Station Manager with the day-to-day running of the station, and its longer-term projects. This will largely involve identifying areas in the station which could be developed to improve the experience for members, or advertise us better to the student and local communities. You will often be the first person the Station Manager goes to for feedback on the running of the station, or any proposed new initiatives.

They will take ownership of the station’s finances, which includes reviewing requests from committee members for purchases, and supporting with funding applications (such as the Alumni Fund) and other funding opportunities. As a radio station we do have a lot of resources and opportunities available to enter sponsorships, so creativity here is a very useful skill. For larger-scale events such as the X-Media Winter and Summer balls, there may be additional administration involved with budget control. 

The Deputy Station Manager also may wish to work with the Networking and Outreach Officer and Head of Marketing to agree ways the station can promote and advertise itself to potential members.

The elected individual will also be responsible for organising the sale of stash. This involves contacting our supplier, taking payment for items and ensuring all members receive their order on time. There are no set deadlines for this throughout the year, though committee stash orders would need to be delivered in time for Freshers’ Week.

Similar to the position of Station Manager, candidates for this role will bring their own unique ideas and experiences from inside and outside of student media the position. Candidates should have ideas on how the station could develop itself, and what they need to do to achieve these during their time in the position.
