As Welfare Secretary, you need to be approachable, trustworthy, and reliable. Your role is to help resolve any conflicts that may arise within the society, and to be approachable throughout the year. You are responsible for monitoring the physical and mental health of the society members. You need to act sensitively and in strict confidence when members bring any personal problems to you, referring to the President and other external organisations when necessary.
You will work closely with all members of the committee to ensure all activities the society runs are inclusive and accessible to all. You will also work closely with members to listen and implement their feedback about what they would like to see from the society.
You will work closely with the Social Secretary to ensure socials are suitable and comfortable for everyone who may want to join, and with the Publicity Officer to implement schemes like a ‘Spread Love Sunday’ and ‘Well-being Wednesday’ posts.
Alongside these duties, the Welfare Secretary is also expected to be representative at as many events as possible, and help out with society events. So while this is a very enjoyable role, there will be a large amount of administrative work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure everyone is feeling accommodated for. It is a role that cannot be planned for extensively, so you need to be comfortable with acting fast under pressure and being available most of the time. We urge you to run if you feel you fit this description and feel you could bring something special or unique to the role! If you have any suggestions about how to expand or better the role, please include these in your manifesto.
If you have any questions, feel free to message or email the current Welfare Secretary Rebecca Kay (rk548@exeter.ac.uk)
