BSL Society Beginners' and Intermediates' Reps By-Election
-
British Sign Language Society
This by-election serves the purpose of electing three representatives to the committee of the British Sign Language Society, two beginners' representatives and one intermediates' representative. These are very low-stakes, casual roles which serve to help the society run events where extra support is needed, and most importantly offer your feedback to the society as someone learning BSL either with us or at the university.
Beginners' representatives should have undertaken at least one class with the British Sign Language Society, or taken the BSL for Beginners' Part 1/Part 2/both modules at the Language Centre at the University. Candidates from either situation, society learners or university learners, are both completely valid and encouraged to apply.
An intermediates' representative should have experience in signing, but does not need to be fluent. You may have completed the BSL for Beginners' modules at the university, you may be taking the Intermediate module at the university, have learned BSL elsewhere or taught yourself BSL to a standard above beginners' level, or be fluent. If you're not sure whether you have enough experience to apply for either role, you probably do, but please feel free to message us @bslsocexeter, cb1243@exeter.ac.uk or on our WhatsApp community if you wanted to check!
These roles will run until March/April, when we start our elections for next year's committee roles. This is a great way to get involved with a society committee and see what it's like, but in a super casual, friendly and low-stakes way. We would massively appreciate the feedback and experience you can offer us, so if you're tempted, please do apply!
