About Us

Aims and Objectives:

  • To provide a safe space for people with an interest in the region to meet and discuss their views.
  • To encourage people from different year groups and backgrounds to mix based on their shared interest.
  • To be a politically neutral society for people who have a love for Arabic and the Middle East.

Over the years, we've hosted world-class speakers from the Guardian, BBC and others, organised wine tastings and balls, and held topical panel discussions with leading academics; this year promises to be no exception. From talks with journalists and ambassadors to Arabic classes for students of all abilities, AMES will undoubtedly live up to its reputation. In addition to all of that, we also help Arabic students to prepare for their year abroad in the Middle East by bringing different year groups together and encouraging older year groups to advise their peers.

As a member, there are many benefits, including: reserved front row seating for our popular speaking events; first refusal for our as popular ticketed events such as the Summer Ball and wine tasting; plus access to our unique STASH, including beanies, t-shirts, jumpers and many more!
