Aims and Objectives 

• Provide a place for people who love Rock, Metal and Alternative Music to meet people, attend socials, and enjoy live music. 
• Put on great gigs in Exeter of a variety of genres, both local bands and from further afield.
• Support the local alternative music scene, both bands and venues.
• Promote trips to gigs and events outside of Exeter. 

Enjoy rock, metal, or alternative music? Want to meet fellow fans, make friends, and socialise with people who share your interests? Looking to attend gigs both in Exeter and elsewhere? We’re the society for you! 

We aim to promote alternative music of all genres and provide a place for fans of everything from classic rock to hardcore punk to extreme metal to meet and socialise, with an emphasis on music and the scene surrounding it. 

Membership is a bargain at only £5 for the year, and has many benefits attached!

What do we do? 

In past years, we have organised formal and informal trips to see Alestorm, Saint Vitus, Gojira, and Metallica. Trips were made to Bristol to see Venom Prison, Thy Art is Murder, Slabdagger, and Barns Courtney, and to London to see Amon Amarth, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Eye Hate God, and Green Lung. We have also visited festivals including Download, Arctangent, 2000Trees, and Desertfest. 

We organise and stage our own gigs in Exeter as part of RAMS Presents. Past headliners have included Poppyshow, This is Real, Ersh1a, Cybernetic Witch Cult, Brain Ape, Bayonette, and Mantra. Local and even student bands have supported, and entry is discounted for RAMS members. 

Many of our members are also talented musicians in their own right – if you’re looking to form a band or just jam, finding like-minded people is easy. 

We organise socials just like other societies: themed and regular pub crawls, quizzes, karaoke, and many other kinds of events in Exeter, and frequently collaborate with other music and hobby societies, such as the Esports, Real Ale, and Campus Bands societies. We also often get discounts for local gigs and events, including the established Altern8 and Indie Nights at Cavern (basically an informal social – we’re there almost every Saturday!) We love to support the local scene as a society. 

Though we love a pub crawl, alcohol isn’t mandatory, and we have always welcomed those who are straight-edge or don't drink alcohol for cultural, religious, or medical reasons. If you don’t or can’t drink, we want you to come along and have fun – it’s all about the music!
