About Us

Freedom Society is Exeter University's place for intellectually curious right-wing  students. We are dedicated to promoting free speech and uncensored political discourse, exploring ideas that traditional academia simply will not consider. Our committee and membership encompass a broad range of ideas and ideologies, facilitating open debate and intellectual inquiry.

Every Thursday evening, we host a ‘Pint and Policy’ event, in which a member gives a speech on a topic of close interest. A Q&A, discussions and drinks follow afterwards, creating a sociable atmosphere  for students to robustly share their ideas without the need to self censor. In the past, member's speeches have investigated the teachings of Friedrich Nietzsche, declining IQ or the Great Man Theory of History.

Alongside our weekly meetings, we host external speaker events – inviting individuals and organisations (such as David Starkey or Lotus Eaters) to share their ideas with us. This provides our members with the  chance to hear from academics and commentators who would normally be overlooked by mainstream university discourse.

Outside of academic events, our regular socials are a great opportunity for less structured and more candid get-togethers. For this year we plan to host black-tie poker nights, cocktail evenings, pub crawls and dinners, with other ambitious ventures in the works.

While largely political in our objectives, the Freedom Society provides a forum for likeminded students to meet, socialise and build long lasting friendships.

“In the doctrine of equality there is hidden a will to deny life; a leveling down of mankind, blurring of differences, the destruction of individuality in favor of mediocrity.”- Friedrich Nietzsche
