Freedom Society is the home of genuine open discussion in Exeter. We are dedicated to our values of free speech and uncensored political discourse, and pride ourselves in exploring otherwise legitimate ideas that traditional academia simply fails to consider. Our committee and membership encompass a broad spectrum of views, owing to our commitment to staying nonpartisan; Freedom welcomes with open arms all those who desire to partake in good faith discussion and critique.

Thursday evenings, we host a ‘Pint and Policy’ event, wherein a member gives a speech on a topic of close interest, followed by a Q&A and discussions and drinks thereafter in a sociable atmosphere for students to share their ideas without the need to self-censor.

Alongside our weekly meetings, we host external speaker events where we invite both individuals and organisations to share their ideas with us. At Freedom, you have the chance to hear from academics and commentators who would otherwise be overlooked or shunned by mainstream discourse. 

Outside of academic events, our regular socials are a great opportunity for less structured and more candid get-togethers. We host black-tie poker nights, cocktail evenings, pub crawls and dinners, with other ambitious ventures in the works. While largely political in our objectives, the Freedom Society provides a forum for likeminded students to socialise and build wonderful long-lasting friendships.
