About Us

Global Touch volunteers provide fundamental support to local school students in Exeter, for whom English is a second language. Our volunteers help them on a one-to-one basis during class time, speaking to them in their mother tongue to ensure greater understanding of their task and thus better adaptation to the UK student life. By providing language and pastoral support in classes, our volunteers help students build confidence in their studies. Not only students will benefit from this, volunteers can also enjoy the lessons.

Apart from having fun in the lessons, International Mother Language Day is our biggest annual event, where students from our partner schools visit University of Exeter to spend the day doing fun activities with our volunteers.

In order to provide full support to our students in their native language, our volunteers are required to speak a foreign language fluently and ideally commit to 2 hours per week of volunteering, for a period of at least 1 term, keeping absence to a minimum. The project is very flexible; volunteers can choose the day and time they are available to volunteer.

Volunteers will gain valuable organisation, time management and communication skills, as well as developing cultural appreciation and awareness alongside experience in translating and interacting within a professional environment. Taking part in the project provides experience in working with children, enhances your CV and volunteering time counts towards the Exeter award!

A DBS IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT
