We are MathSoc, one of the university’s largest academic societies and the organisation dedicated to maths students. We bring maths students together predominantly through socials and sports, but also with joints events with other societies and other academic opportunities. We are an inclusive society; we will host a variety of events for all tastes, so there is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year. 

Membership

MathSoc membership entitles you to discounts on our ticket prices and activities! Our membership is lower than most other academic socieities at a price of £9 per year, ensuring the society is accessible for all!

We also have a sports membership for access to intramural sports - see below!

Aims and Objectives

• Host a range of socials over the academic year on a regular basis, culminating in our two flagship events - the Winter Ball and Summer Formal.
• Unite Maths students through common academic interests, sport and social events.
• Provide members with the best opportunities during and after your degree.
• Host speakers throughout the year.

Events

We host a range of socials over the academic year on a regular basis, including pub quizzes, club socials and pizza nights! The terms end with our flagship events - the Winter Ball and Summer Formal. With a huge variety of socials, there’s always an attractive event around the corner!

Academia

MathSoc exists to provide its members with the best opportunities during and after your degree. We offer promotion and guidance of upcoming placements, internships and graduate opportunities, specifically tailored to maths students. We also talks throughout the year on a range of mathematical topics.

Sports

You can also represent MathSoc in a number of sporting capacities! This year, intramural opportunities exist in 6-a-side football and netball! Plus, the cost is minimal in comparison to the main sports clubs. We also host friendlies against other societies. MathSoc teams are in place for all abilities and intramural sport gives you the chance to play at a convenient time with your coursemates.
