University of Exeter Creative Writing Society

We are a community of writers who have created a relaxed and encouraging environment to develop, share, and publish creative work. We welcome writers of all experience and skill level, whether you've been writing for years, or fancy taking up a new hobby!

Our weekly writing socials offer a calm space to practise and celebrate your writing with like-minded people. From writing workshops, discussion sessions, and long-term project support to craft socials, open-mic nights, and the occasional murder mystery party, CWSoc has something for every writer!

Additionally, our literary journal, ENIGMA, provides a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in developing skills as an editor, or having their creative work published. We open applications for our editorial team every autumn term and publish a print edition of ENIGMA in the summer, so be sure to visit our website www.exeterenigma.com or follow @exeterenigma on Instagram for any updates!

Membership to the society includes free weekly writing socials, access to our members group chat, and discounted tickets to all events held by the society.

Feel free to reach out to us by email and follow our Instagram and FIXR page for information and updates about our events.

Aims and Objectives:

• Support society members as emerging writers in their projects, promoting confidence and developing skills in the craft of writing.
• Run workshops for fiction, poetry, script, and creative non-fiction across a range of genres.
• Host open-mic events for those who want to perform and share the writing they have been working on.
• Offer inclusive, engaging socials for members to enjoy one another's company outside of writing sessions.
• Contribute to the creative development and editorial processes of ENIGMA, providing students with an opportunity to see their creative work in print.
