About Us

Do you like games? Well, you've come to the right place

Welcome to Games Society at the University of Exeter where we provide a place for students to be able to play games. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a complete beginner, anyone is welcome to join to play games

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Our aims and objectives are to:

  • Introduce people to the world of games and create an inclusive and welcoming space for people to play games
  • Help people find others with a shared interest or passion for games
  • Provide a regular place and time for people to be able to play games

WHAT WE DO

In a nutshell, games. In reality, you can find out the types of games that we do below

Board Games
We provide a place for people to play board games as well as provide a wide variety of board games. This includes familiar and unfamiliar games such as Settlers of Catan and Shadow Hunters as well as smaller and larger games such as Skull and Terraforming Mars. If you're interested in playing board games then this may be something that you would enjoy

Card Games
We provide a place for people to play card games including Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon Trading Card Game. Whether you're a collector of cards, a competitive player or just someone who likes to play casually, you can hopefully find a place here to play card games

Tabletop Roleplaying Games (TTPRGs)
We provide sessions for people to play TTRPGs and help provide a space to connect players and Dungeon Masters looking for games or campaigns to join or players to take part in them. If you like roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu and Pathfinder, this could be something for you

War Games
We provide a place for people to play war games including Warhammer 40K and Warhammer Age of Sigmar as well as other games such as Gaslands and Kill Team. We can provide the terrain for people to play on and a place for people to meet fellow war game players. So, whether you're a competitive war gamer or just someone who likes to paint and showcase their models, you can hopefully find what you're looking for here

Social Deduction Games
A brand-new addition to Games Society, we provide a place for those who enjoy playing social deduction games such as Blood on the Clocktower, Werewolf and Mafia. Whether you're new to social deduction games or are a pro at working out who is on the evil team, you can hopefully find games and like-minded players here

Chess
Games Society has now become the new place to play chess in lieu of Chess Society until they are able to be restored in the future. Like Chess Society, we provide a place for students to be able to play chess and welcome students of all abilities and skill levels including those new to the game and those who have played internationally. Friendly games as well as competitive games of chess are played here and coaching is available to those who want to improve. We plan to continue to take part in local leagues and at the annual British Universities' Chess Association (BUCA) Championships.

There is also a Lichess Team which people are welcome to join using the link here: https://lichess.org/team/exeter-university-chess-society-2023

WHEN WE PLAY GAMES

We regularly run in-person socials every week during term time (and can run online socials during the holidays too) as well as run joint socials and special events to help with providing a great experience overall for our members
