About Us

In the UK, women make up almost 50% of the medical school cohort, however, only make up 13.2% of surgeons. The Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) is one of the largest international organisations, with approximately 3,000 members of all genders in 40 different countries, dedicated to increasing the interaction between women surgeons while inspiring and supporting medical students to become surgical consultants.

Exeter’s student chapter of the AWS would connect aspiring women surgeons to trainees, consultants and medical students both locally and internationally with the chance to participate in a mentorship programme, international conferences, networking and career development events.

Our aims are to

  • Encourage aspiring women surgeons
  • Empower aspiring women surgeons
  • Connect aspiring women surgeons

We look forward to hosting virtual workshops, skills sessions and webinar both locally and with national and international chapters and meeting you there!
