About Us

Aims and Objectives:

  • To provide an inclusive environment for brass, woodwind and percussion players of all abilities to play their instrument and socialise as like-minded people.
  • To perform a diverse repertoire of concert band music at concerts for the university and wider community.
  • To provide a platform from which individuals can further their musical experience through opportunities such as solo pieces and workshops with professional groups and schools.

Exeter University Concert Band is a large, non-auditioned group of fun and friendly musicians that welcomes woodwind, brass and percussion players of all abilities.

We rehearse every Thursday from 6.45-8.45pm in Kay House and perform concerts at the end of each university term at venues in and around Exeter including local churches and the Quay. We also perform at university events such as Arts Fest. Every Easter, we go on tour for five days of music and activities! Previous tours have included Prague, Paris, Antwerp & The Hague, Dusseldorf and most recently Edinburgh.

The music we play ranges from classical wind band repertoire such as Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, to arrangements of familiar stage-and-screen soundtracks including Pirates of the Caribbean, Les Miserables, and Frozen just to name a few.

We hold regular socials, such as cocktail evenings, quizzes, beach trips, visits to iBounce and a winter formal - the highlight of the concert band year.

Additional activities that take place within the year are educational workshops with local primary schools, working with the Salamanca Band and Bugles of the Rifles, and collaborating with other university concert bands to create the South West Universities Concert Band Festival.

We look forward to welcoming many new members over the next year and hope you enjoy being a part of it as much as we do!
