Who are we?
Welcome to the University of Exeter's oldest hiking society!
Established in 1956, OODS has been running weekly hikes throughout the South West for over 60 years.
What do we do?
- Weekly hikes in and around the South West, typically ranging between 6 and 14 miles.
- Frequent outdoorsy socials to help you meet new hiking buddies to chat to during our walks.
- Weekends away exploring areas further afield. Previous trips have taken us to the Brecon Beacons, Monmouthshire, St Austell, and Land's End.
- Annual TorExe 30 mile challenge - for those who fancy an extra challenge.
What to expect
Our Saturday hikes take place in and around the countryside of the South West, and will take you through National Parks, up and down rugged coastlines, and into some of Devon and Cornwall's quaintest villages for an explore or a snack to finish off!
Hikes are typically between 6 and 14 miles, and we will provide an indication of difficulty as they are published each week.
Tickets for our walks are released on Fixr every Monday at 7pm and are in limited supply, so make sure to act fast to secure your place.
Who can come?
Everyone is welcome on our hikes!
Purchasing a £25 society membership provides benefits including discounts on coaches and socials, and is definitely the best way to go if you want to keep up with everything OODS has to offer.
However, all of our hikes, trips, and socials will be available to purchase without a membership.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a walk that you have bought a ticket for, please make sure to let us know by 12pm on the Thursday before the walk at the latest so someone else can fill your place. Any refunds requested after this time are unable to be processed.
Tickets released from cancellations will go live on Fixr on Thursdays at 7pm, and we will announce any cancellation tickets available by email and social media.
Goals for 2024/25
- Help as many people as possible get out to enjoy what the natural landscapes of the South West have to offer.
- Establish and maintain an inclusive and welcoming community through weekly socials.
- Widen inclusivity by continuing our range of shorter and more accessible walks, which are in brackets below.
