• Why We Are Starting the Central Asian Society

   We are starting the Central Asian Society because there is a distinct gap in cultural representation and community support for students from the Central Asian region at the University of Exeter.

   Despite the university’s diverse population, students from nations like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan often lack a visible, dedicated space to connect, celebrate their heritage, and collectively explore the unique geopolitical relevance of their home countries. This society is necessary to achieve two key goals:

   To create a supportive anchor: We will provide a familiar and vital "home away from home" network, helping students from Central Asia connect, integrate, and overcome feelings of isolation.

   To enhance academic life: We aim to become the primary student-led platform for robust academic discussion and cultural awareness of this increasingly important global region, enriching the educational experience for all Exeter students.

  The successful establishment of this society will add a valuable and unique cultural and academic voice to the Students' Guild.

Cultural Enrichment & Social Community

   Foster a Supportive Home: To establish a supportive, inclusive community that serves as a "home away from home" for all Central Asian students and those interested in the region.

   Celebrate Heritage: To actively plan and host traditional cultural events, such as Navruz and Eid Al-adha celebrations, food workshops, and film screenings, throughout the academic year.

   Promote Cross-Cultural Collaboration: To collaborate with other international societies, facilitating meaningful exchange and championing Central Asian voices on campus.

Academic Engagement & Personal Development

   Enhance Regional Literacy: To host high-quality academic sessions (guest speakers, discussions, and workshops) to enhance understanding of Central Asia's history, politics, and contemporary issues.

   Facilitate Professional Networking: To organize career development events, connecting members with alumni and professionals specializing in the Central Asian academic or business landscape.

   Encourage Informed Dialogue: To create a respectful, non-partisan, and student-led forum for the critical discussion of complex global affairs related to the region.
