Society Description

  • We want to bring together students who are looking for a fun, new hobby centred around cooking and food. It will be a great opportunity for students to get together, cook together and socialise both in our cooking workshops and the various social events and activities listed above.
  • Students will be living in Exeter for up to 4 years - we want to organise trips to the best, most popular food and drink places in around Exeter to help students, especially 1st years, familiarise themselves to the city and all it has to offer.
  • We aim to create a community as a society outside of our respective courses, where students can make friends through the activities we offer, and engage in events other than just the 'clubbing and pub-ing' culture.
  • Cooking is often considered a chore and our diets as students are overlooked. We want to make cooking a fun, engaging group activity and promote healthier recipes that are accessible to everyone regardless of socioeconomic status or time commitment.

We are aware of the potential overlap with the SlowFoodOnCampus Society, however we believe that what we are trying to do here is different. Our Society, unlike SlowFood, is not a national campaign centred around sustainability and zero-waste. Instead, our society is centred specifically around the students and their needs at university to have access to quick and easy meals that are "no faff" and are still nutritious. We want unique recipes instead of boring standard recipes we are used to. We want students to share their own recipes. We specifically want to only promote recipes that budget and time-friendly for students. We want to introduce new students to this beautiful city and all the places there are to love. We want to bring together students of all cultures and allow them to share there family recipe secrets and food cultures with us. This is a food culture society, not a sustainability society like SlowFood. We not only want to share our love for food, but we also want to give back to the community. That's why we are hosting our classes at St Sidwell's Community Centre and we will be promoting small business restaurants and cafés during the current cost of living crisis.

WE WANT TO MAKE FOOD ACCESSIBLE TO ALL STUDENTS.
