We want to address the lack of student-focused societies on St Luke’s and to accommodate for the different schedules of healthcare students, particularly those on placements during the year. Each month, we explore a new book, selecting from a wide range of genres to accommodate everyone’s interests. Fortnightly meetings will include fostering engaging discussions, as well as other activities including book-themed events and related media to enrich the reading experience.

This society has been running for the previous 2 years, and although not guild-affiliated, it has always given students a space to relax and destress from the courses they are studying amongst those who share similar interests. Having been members of this society last year, we would like to acknowledge the supportive environment it has created and to give back to the society by continuing to promote it to the wider student community.

Although we are aware of a book club based on Streatham campus, our society would help those living closer to St Luke's as a more accessible option, especially first years that are adjusting to university life at this campus.

Aims & objectives:

• To create an inclusive space for St Luke’s students to explore and share thoughts on books from a range of different genres, and encourage open discussion

• To cater to the varied and demanding schedules of healthcare students by offering flexible meeting times that align with their timetables

• To provide a closer alternative to Streatham, which reduces the need to travel at later hours, and to grow closer as a St Luke’s community

• To include a wide range of book selections suggested by members in the society and to tailor to everyone’s own interests
