Society Description
We were amazed to see that a University of this stature did not already have a designated chess society, and we felt that there would be a large amount of people who would also wish to share their love of this unique game in its own space, or to start playing for the first time. Our aims may be ambitious but we think it better to aim high than settle for less.
Aims:
To promote and foster a love for chess among students of all skill levels.
To create an inclusive and welcoming environment for chess enthusiasts.
To provide opportunities for students to improve their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills through chess.
To encourage social interaction and friendly competition among members.
To represent the university in local, national, and online chess competitions.
Objectives:
Organize regular chess meetups, casual games, and training sessions.
Host tournaments and events, including university-wide and inter-university competitions.
Arrange workshops and coaching sessions for players of all levels, from beginners to advanced.
Collaborate with other university societies and chess clubs for joint events and networking.
Establish an online platform (e.g., Discord, Chess.com, or Lichess) for virtual games and discussions.
Provide access to chess resources, including books, study materials, and analysis tools.
Promote the benefits of chess in developing critical thinking, patience, and strategic planning.
Secure funding and sponsorships to support society activities and growth.
