Society Description
Living and studying in the South West puts us in one of the most naturally beautiful and biodiverse regions of the UK. Most students barely scratch the surface of habitats such as Dartmoor and the Exe Estuary during their time here - we are passionate about changing that.
Bird watching is not just spotting birds - it offers the perfect blend of mindfulness, learning and local adventure. When university life can be intense and overwhelming, reconnecting with nature and appreciating the environment around us can be grounding and even transformative.
Our aims:
Make bird watching accessible and enjoyable through providing a welcoming space for students who are curious about birds and the local ecosystem, regardless of experience
Raise environmental awareness, actively support biodiversity and conservation, both on and off campus.
To connect with the wider Exeter and Devon community - through partnerships with local bird watching groups, wildlife organisations and nature reserves.
Create meaningful opportunities for volunteering and conservation work, from habitat restoration to bird surveys, and community driven wildlife research.
Support wellbeing through mindful time in nature and low pressure social events, building community among like-minded students.
