Annual Committee Elections 2024

  • ECG Bellringing Society

Election Information

The main reason this society exists is to advertise bellringing as an opportunity for students. As you know, the majority of the activities throughout the year are organised by the fantastic ringers at St David’s. But, in order to remain affiliated to the Guild - which is the main way students can know we exist and get involved in ringing - we have to have at least 3 committee members. So please do consider running for a role, it’s honestly really not a big time commitment but it is essential to keep ringing open to students at Exeter!

Benefits of being on committee:

  • Opportunity to get more involved in ringing in Exeter
  • Really good experience for your CV
  • Excellent opportunity to develop skills such as organisation, leadership and teamwork
  • Opportunity to gain greater insight into how committees run and how societies function under the Students’ Guild. This is really helpful for if you are on committees in your career, or if you are on another society committee.

Nomination

If you are interested in a position, please register as a candidate on the Guild website here.

You have to provide a manifesto, but please do not overthink this. 2-3 sentences on why you think you would be good at the role is more than enough! If only one person puts themselves forward for a position, they will automatically be offered the position. If multiple people put themselves forward, we will have a period of voting where all members can choose their preferred candidate. We may consider offering additional roles in another election if there is sufficient interest so that everyone can be on committee if they want to be, so do put yourself forward for something.

Election timetable

  • Wednesday 8th May: Nominations open
  • Thursday 16th May: Nominations close, campaign period opens (if required)
  • Friday 17th May - Wednesday 23rd May: Voting period (if required)
  • Thursday 24th May: Results announced

Positions up for election

Available positions are President, General Secretary and Treasurer. If there is significant interest, we can consider offering further positions so everyone gets a chance to be in committee if they want to! I have included a more in-depth explanation of each role on a google doc here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HPSXsHp732jfKm7d8Mm4zJTD13AxLg8rw1l3CcZl9WM/edit?usp=sharing Please don’t let these explanations overwhelm you, the point is to give you a clear idea of what the role involves, not to make you think it’s a very high-pressure or busy role (they’re honestly not!)

For all of these roles, there will be a period of handover where the current people in these roles teach you how to do them. So do not worry if you don't feel fully qualified to do every part of the role as we will be here to help! Especially with regards to communicating with the Guild, writing risk assessments/budgets and booking rooms, these are all things you are not expected to have previous knowledge of and will be taught how to do.
